Sun Signs Largest Java Deal Ever with GM
Sun and General Motors have announced that GM will be building its entire SOA system on JES, which will be the largest single Java deployment ever. This marks both a victory for Sun’s new licensing policies, as well as makes Sun’s recent acquisition of SeeBeyond pay off. GM has been a customer of SeeBeyond for years, but in addition to the technology from SeeBeyond, the new agreement will deploy Java’s full line of identity management services and development tools, running on Solaris 10.
Besides pushing the number of JES subscribers to almost one million, the deal will give Sun the chance to prove that JES is a fully capable and mature platform on which to build SOA services. “It’s a big confidence vote for us,” said Jim McHugh, Senior Director of Software Portfolio Marketing at Sun.
